Meryl Streep is scared of failure.
The Iron Lady actress says she is still learning her craft and always has the fact that her next film could be a massive flop at the back of her mind.
She explains it is the potential failure that strives her to do better rather than looking back at all her achievements.
“I think about failure. Absolutely, day-to-day and moment-to-moment,” admits Meryl.
“It is there waiting for you. Sometimes just one thing that goes wrong can send you into your trailer, when one really cute idea you have is shot down or doesn’t work, it’s a terrible feeling but that’s acting.”
Streep recently admitted her younger costars often feel intimidated when they first meet her but they soon relax when they realize she is just as prone to making mistakes as anyone else.
“I do feel that thing when a young actor comes in,” she said. “I feel an obstruction. It’s an invisible thing that pulsates in the room.
“You have to puncture it and get rid of it before you can start working. Usually the first time I forget my lines, which happens a lot lately, everybody relaxes. Everybody goes, ‘Oh, she’s not so great.’
“From The Devil Wears Prada to Mamma Mia!, it’s been a pretty wide variety of things. Maybe that’s because they don’t know what to do with me.
“It’s really fun. I feel sorry for the young girls because those parts are cookie-cutter. One after another, indistinguishable.”
